How to Take a Break from Social Media

How to take a social media break

Sometimes, you just need a break. However, your business may not be able to allow that to happen. When it comes to social media, let’s face it: a lot of business relies on it these days. That doesn’t mean you can’t take a break from social media. What it does mean is that you can strategically plan a break from social media. It’s sort of like a vacation, but for your mental health. Here’s how to take a break from social media.

Prepare content ahead of time

Showing potential customers that you’re active on social media shows them that your business is active. That doesn’t mean you can’t take a break! Prepare your social media content ahead of time. If you’re running a business that relies on social media to keep bringing in leads, preparing content ahead of time is valuable. Gather some evergreen content and spread out posting on your social channels. Saving yourself the heartache of curating daily content will free your time. Gather media, write captions, and get ready to take a break.

Schedule your social media

The ability to schedule your social media has been a true lifesaver. For those who need to keep up a social media presence, but also need to juggle a million other facets of their business… this is perfect. Choose the cadence that your audience best responds to, whether that’s daily, every other day, or weekly. Use social media scheduling tools to get your content onto your networks without having to stress.

Pinterest Scheduler: Tailwind

Tailwind is the perfect scheduling app for Pinterest and Instagram. This app excels at Pinterest, in particular. Tailwind offers not only bulk scheduling for Pinterest, but provides suggested times and more. Tribes on Tailwind is their feature where it’s essentially groups of other users with similar interests. You must pin from others to be able to share pins in the group yourself. Tailwind also provides hashtag recommendations for Instagram, with indications of which are more and less niche.

Social Media Scheduler: Hootsuite

I use Hootsuite for almost ALL of my social media scheduling. I even schedule my Instagrams through Hootsuite these days! Hootsuite offers a great variety of solutions for different social networks. There aren’t too many bells and whistles, and you can get straight to the point. Choose auto-scheduling or manual scheduling, whatever suits your needs.

Instagram Planner: Planoly

Planoly is a chic Instagram marketing tool that is highly visual. People use Planoly to plan their grids, create Instagram Stories and more. Planoly is worth your time if you’re very into the visual aspect of Instagram. Lay out your Instagram content far ahead of time with Planoly’s tools.

Turn off notifications

Turn off your notifications! It may be tempting to check in when you’re “detoxing” from social. Take a social media break and turn off the notifications for Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and so on. If you’re feeling the need to take a break from social, start with the easiest step–– shutting off the noise. You don’t need to be tempted to look at social media when you’re trying to relax.

Set limits for yourself

Set limits for yourself when you’re trying to take a break from social media. How long will you be away? How far ahead of time will your scheduled content last? Will you be checking on your networks at all, or leave them to be self-sufficient? Figure out what your limits are when you plan to take a social media break.

Enjoy the time away

Last but not least, enjoy yourself. If you feel the need to take a break from social media, it’s for a good reason. Enjoy the time away from your screen. Focus on the things in your life that are more pressing than likes, follows and comments. Taking a break from social media can be beneficial for your mental health, and also to everything else that you love and appreciate in your life.
